Dane Komljen and Angela Schanelec know each other from working together recent projects. Each filmmakers in their own right, they have been invited to speak about their respective approaches to making, writing and thinking about film.
Dane Komljen (b. 1986, Banja Luka, SFR Yugoslavia) lives and works in Berlin, after studying at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing and the Universität der Künste in Berlin. His short films have been shown and awarded at the Locarno Film Festival, IFF Rotterdam, Festival de Cannes, FID Marseille, Toronto IFF, New York FF and Sarajevo FF. In late 2018, the ICA in London organized a full retrospective of his work. Currently he is developing two new feature length projects, A Treatise on Limnology and Desire Lines.
Angela Schanelec (b. 1962, Aalen, Germany) is a German actress, film director and screenwriter. Her artistic career began as an actress onstage; she is best known today for her career as a filmmaker, which began during her time at the Berlin Film and Television Academy (dffb). There, she studied under Harun Farocki and Hartmut Bitomsky, and met Christian Petzold and Thomas Arslan, with whom she comprised the so-called first wave of the Berlin School.
