Narratives in Boundless Space

Eröffnung1. Mai 2019, 18:00Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Waldschmidtstraße 4, 60316 Frankfurt am Main

Exhibition Opening: May 1, 18:00
Exhibition Opening hours: May 2–5, 15:00–20:00

Hosted Talks: May 3, 18:00

Breaking Glass II is a five-day event thematising Virtual Reality in relation to architecture and the arts, presenting problems inherent to the technology as well as the boundless spaces and layered narratives of VR experiences. In its entirety, Breaking Glass II is a provocative speculation on contemporary forms of pictorial representation in Virtual Reality and how they may impinge on our lives.

The festival is composed of the exhibition Narratives in Boundless Space (May 1–5), an evening of public talks (Thursday, May 3) and a symposium Breaking Glass II – The Virtual Image (Saturday, May 4). The exhibition comprises two distinct collections of projects. In Cartographies of Venice, eight projects engage site-specific with Venice, meanwhile Spatial Fabulations and Other Tales of Representation in Virtual Reality presents eleven project that fabulate different architectural stories in relation to existing or invented settings. On Saturday, the conference brings together specialists from neurophysiology, philosophy, art and architecture to ponder select questions about how we perceive reality when its basis in pictorial constructions and contemporary technology subjects it to an endless moulding of multiple streams of information.
