Cosima von Bonin is known for her multidisciplinary approach, blending sculpture, installation, painting, and textiles.

At the core of von Bonin’s practice is a refusal to conform to rigid artistic or personal categorizations. Her use of humor often masks deeper investigations into themes of alienation, gender, and the art world’s self-seriousness. Her recurring use of anthropomorphic sea creatures, for instance, embodies a kind of lethargic resistance, poking fun at expectations of productivity and identity performance in contemporary society. Through this comedic lens, von Bonin dismantles hierarchies and exposes the performative aspects of art and selfhood, creating work that balances playfulness and critical engagement.

This exhibition will inaugurate the new Ordet location, renovated by BB – Alessandro Bava and Fabrizio Ballabio at via Lippi, as well as the book store of publishing house Lenz.

Cosima von Bonin was born in 1962 in Mombasa, Kenya, and lives and works in Cologne, Germany. She has exhibited at major international venues, including documenta, the Venice Biennale, Mudam Luxembourg, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.

Ordet thanks Galerie Neu, Berlin for the support to the exhibition and Flos for the entrance lighting.
