OPENING: Friday, 14th, 08.2020, 16-22 h
POLARRAUM Hamburg opens its new exhibition space in Hall 425 in the Oberhafen with a solo exhibition by the artist Justine Otto. In cooperation with the now legendary concert hall 424 operated by Jürgen Carstensen, POLARRAUM will present 4-6 exhibitions annually in hall 425/Oberhafen.
The move to Oberhafen with its immediate vicinity to the Deichtorhallen and the concert hall 424 offers POLARRAUM the opportunity to expand its program internationally and to present it in a unique urban area on 160 square meters. This symbiosis of acoustic and visual experience is opened by Justine Otto with her exhibition 'PISS UP A ROPE'. This title comes from the unique album '12 Golden Country Greats' by the cult band Ween, which is otherwise known for completely different music. The myth of the Marlboro man, who rides through the infinity of the prairie like a Wild West hero, is fractured in Justine Otto's paintings and sculptures and then woven into a new structure by her.
Justine Otto studied free painting at the renowned Städelschule in Frankfurt. Her art has already been purchased by museums in the USA, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. In 2013 she received the Phillips Collection Emerging Artist Prize in Washington D.C. In the course of this, the museum acquired works for the permanent collection. Justine Otto's works were shown in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig and in the Haus am Dom in Frankfurt/Main.
