In photography, a light leak emerges as a technical mishap, a rift permitting uncontrolled light onto film or sensor.

In his second solo show in the UAE titled “Light, Leaks”, Augustine Paredes explores accidental anomalies, triggering memories of flawed pictures and contemplations of the essence of light.

Inspired by an archive of failed images, Augustine begins his process by initially painting a figure, then smearing several layers of oil paint over it, as if taking a picture, and because of an error, the afterimage becomes devoid of reality.

More than a catalogue of flaws, this series is a narrative illuminated by happenstance, offering portals to forgotten memories and musings, interlacing desire and somnolence. The leaks blur the lines between intention and chance, capturing the interplay of unintentional illumination. This work is an invitation to gaze at a beauty born from coincidence and challenges the confines of creative precision.

This exhibition would not be possible without the help and support of Foundry and its team, especially Guissepe Moscatello and Aigerim Toktamys. The artist would also like to thank Albert Kolambel for installing the show.
