In his painting, Ekrem Yalcindag combines a modern, abstract approach to images with an oriental art tradition. In paintings measuring up to 3 x 7 m in his latest series of works Natures[MOU1] , he emphasises this duality in a new way using wood and silkscreen. While the curved lines in the circular sections are in harmony with the fine grains of printed wooden slats, screen-printed plant motifs appear as if they have been painted quickly and gesturally over the wood structure—much as we have seen in painting since the second half of the twentieth century or in Asian art. Ekrem Yalcindag ‘has the power and the size to master and combine different cultures,’ wrote Hermann Nitsch, ‘his work is never out of place, it is perhaps an expression of a new globalawareness.’
