CAConrad: Living with the Ancient Technologies of Ritual and Poetry

Photo: Alice WynneCAConrad first began constructing (Soma)tic poetry rituals to anchor writing in the present. Soon enough, the rituals were used to cure depression, converse with trees, ghosts, and rebuild severed connections with the land and creatures.
CAConrad has been working with ancient technologies of poetry and ritual since 1975 and teaches at the Columbia University in New York and the Sandberg Art Institute in Amsterdam. Titles include While Standing in Line for Death (2017), Ecodeviance (2014) and The Book of Frank (2010), all published by Wave Books. They received a Creative Capital grant, a Pew Fellowship, a Lambda Literary Award, and a Believer Magazine Book Award. Their most recent volume of poems, Amanda Paradise, will be published in September 2021 by Wave Books.
