As part of the annual Water Cooler Talks, the students of the Curatorial Studies Master's programme invite you to the Städelschule's Rundgang to discuss current problems and questions in the art world together with various curators, artists and theoreticians.

This year's premise of the Water Cooler Talks 2023 is "Interrogating Spaces". The Water Cooler Talks is placing its focus on subversive practices that break current (value) structures in art production, criticism and circulation. Challenges, possibilities as well as the limits of such structures are being critically explored - space is grasped and destabilised as a dispositive of knowledge, as an architecture of the public, as a virtual platform, as an order of composition. The Water Cooler Talks strive to critically examine the status quo of space.

The invited guests are (listed in alphabetical order): Caroline Busta, the founder of the media channel and online community New Models, a co-editor of the art magazine Artforum in New York, and the former editor-in-chief of the art magazine Texte zur Kunst from 2014 to 2017; Marie-Therese Bruglacher, freelance curator and artistic director of the performance art series Disappearing Berlin at the Schinkel Pavilion and current fellow of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo; and Jana Euler, an artist and graduate of the Städelschule Frankfurt am Main under Michael Krebber, most recently having been shown at the Venice Biennale 2022 and at the Fondazione Prada 2021.

Curatorial Studies – Theory – History – Criticism is a cooperative degree programme of the Goethe University and the Städelschule and works together with the following art institutions: Museum MMK für Moderne Kunst, Städel Museum, Liebieghaus, Historisches Museum, Weltkulturen Museum Frankfurt and Portikus. Through innovative teaching and learning formats, students can combine academic learning and scientific research with curatorial issues and work-related experience.
