Ceremony
200 YEARS OF THE STÄDELSCHULE
Thursday 18 May 2017
The Städelschule’s 200-year existence in Frankfurt am Main has its roots in a long tradition of civic and civilian engagement. The Städelschule is therefore launching its anniversary with a ceremony for invited guests on 18 May 2017 in the Römer’s Kaisersaal in Frankfurt.
PORTIKUS XXX
June 2017 to September 2017
Portikus XXX is the summer programme that marks the 30th birthday of Portikus. It starts and ends with two art projects in public spaces in the city of Frankfurt am Main, where the people of Frankfurt live, work or relax. During the summer months the exhibition hall is running a film programme in the garden. All the guest artists are closely associated with Portikus and the Städelschule, either having exhibited here or studied or taught at the Academy of Fine Arts.
With respect to Portikus’s most recent exhibition history, the curators are preoccupied with the region’s creative potential and artistic trends that have developed in Frankfurt. The influence of the Städelschule and Portikus on international modern art is not analysed historically, but instead practised and developed.

It is one of the most important and exciting times for students in their studies at the Städelschule, marking their transition from the Academy of Fine Arts to life as artists.
Publications
The Städelschule is publishing several books in 2017: May sees the publication of a book that accompanies the ceremony and positions the Städelschule in the present politically, historically and with regard to future teaching.
In the autumn the Städelschule is publishing a selection of its public lectures from the past five years to address the question of what artistic teaching represents today.
