Doppelzimmer
The exhibition series Doppelzimmer combined two artistic positions each in four successive editions and in doing so shone a spotlight on the collaborative process. The form of collaboration varied from the juxtaposition of existing works all the way to joint new productions. Its setting was Room 3 ½ of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, which despite its size was used variously as a “double room”. The connections between the works – be they sculptural objects, assemblages of material, sound or video installations – arose from a dialogic structure that intensified through physical proximity. Here at times the place was an exhibition room with a focus on individual objects, occasionally an extensive installation in which the dividing lines between the work and the environment dissolved. The artists “moved into” the Doppelzimmer one after the other, redeveloping it time and again and redefining it in terms of its content.
