In Anthony, a score based performance, Josh Johnson moves between the past and the present, while exploring the effects of systemic oppression on bodies that simultaneously conceal fragility and despair within tough outward appearances. Johnson examines states of solitude, confinement, and suppressed emotions, relying on an improvisational language, which at times references the physicality of prison cell calisthenics. The explorational piece, which is an homage to his cousin Anthony Pendergass, culminates in a ritual - the remnants of which will become the final piece exhibited in Re: Re: Black Macho: Unleash the Queen.
