Public Programs

The Städelschule offers a series of public programs each semester, which includes: Rundgang, Absolvent*innenausstellung, Lectures, Portikus, and other projects.

Rundgang is the annual spring exhibition where students open their studios and present recent works. The program is accompanied by film screenings at DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, and a curatorial lecture series organized by the Curatorial Studies students, known as the Water Cooler Talks.

Absolvent*innenausstellung is a pop-up-exhibiton held each summer where graduating students present recent work. The exhibition is located in a temporary site in the city of Frankfurt, and it is often accompanied by a performance program and publication.

Lectures is a program conceived and organized by students and faculty since 2000 where a diverse list of artists, architects, filmmakers, curators, and critics are invited to speak of a recent project or work in progress.

Portikus is an exhibition space directed by Städelschule and dedicated to exhibit, publish, and discuss emerging as well as established artists and their work, often for the first time in Frankfurt or in Germany. The exhibition program aims to open spaces for free and critical thinking, within which different learning formats and discourses find their place in the experience of art. So far, 230 exhibitions have been commissioned at Portikus with artists from more than 100 different countries.

In addition to the public programs supported by Städelschule, each semester students organize independent initiatives such as the exhibition spaces Joanne and fffriedrich and partake in program and collaborations with various cultural institutions, including: MMK (Museum für Moderne Kunst), Frankfurter Kunstverein, 1822-Forum, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Museum Angewandte Kunst, Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden, and Kunst- und Kulturstiftung Opelvillen Rüsselsheim, among many others.
