Carrier hotels are data centers. They centralize space and infrastructure for data communication, servers and storage. Frankfurt am Main is constantly making new space available for the construction of new data centers - as was the case at Gwinnerstraße 28 in Fechenheim. For six months, the site was a place for artists and curators to work and meet. Despite the precariousness of art and cultural work that was made obvious last year, we created a safe haven for ourselves in Gwinnerstraße - always knowing that these spaces would only be available temporarily. In August, the building will be demolished. As a result, we will lose one of the foundations of our practice: long-term available and affordable studios.
At the end of the residency at Gwinnerstraße 28, with Carrier Motel we would like to honor young art production in Frankfurt, together with friends and supporters, and show the works created here to the public. At the same time, we see Carrier Motel as an attempt to make non-public spaces visible, in which cultural and artistic practice emerges.
Generously supported by Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main.
