We are excited to invite you to the opening of our new exhibition “Denk-mal: Relics in Crisis” with works by Larry Bonćhaka on Thursday, 24 August 2023. We are thrilled that the artist will be present for the opening and introduce his work with a brief tour. We will also release a limited edition print on the occasion of the exhibition opening. We look forward to welcoming you to the gallery and kindly ask that you RSVP via the button below or via email.

“Relics in Crisis” is the name of an ongoing series of works and performances by Larry Bonćhaka, with the iconic “Auntie DeiDei” dolls, the first mass-produced plastic doll made in West Africa, at the center. “Denkmal” holds a double connotation in German, meaning “monument” but also serving as an incitement to think when written as two words in the form of “denk mal”. As part of the show, Larry Bonćhaka will present a critical collection of relics, archival photos and texts, prints, soundscapes, collectibles, and collages that together explore themes of archiving, retrospective, time, travel, and trade, to name a few.
