This fall 2022 semester, Columbia GSAPP’s public programming builds on the school’s ongoing exploration into issues such as climate change, social equity, as well as the impact of data and technology on the built environment through new forms of practices and collaboration across scales, modes of engagement, and geographies. In-person events are open to Columbia University affiliates and live-streamed for the public on the GSAPP YouTube Channel. Eyal Weizman, Forensic Architecture

Eyal Weizman is a professor of Spatial and Visual Cultures and founding director of the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London, and founder of the research agency Forensic Architecture. This lecture is co-presented by the Dean’s Office and the Computational Design Practices Program.

GSAPP Alumni Prize Recipients Mustafa Faruki, Fabrizio Furriassi, Nelson de Jesus Ubri and Luis Miguel Pizano-Andrade, Aayushi Joshi, Zarith Pineda, Parul Sharma, Adam Susaneck, Luciana Varkulja, and Cheryl Wong present work completed during the 2021-2022 awards cycle, which supported new forms of anti-racist professional practice and community engagement.

Helle Søholt is a founding partner and CEO of Gehl, an urban design and research consultancy offering expertise in the fields of architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, and city planning. This lecture is co-presented by the Dean’s Office and the Urban Design Program.

Emanuel Admassu ’12 MSAAD ’13 AAR is an assistant professor at Columbia GSAPP and founding partner, with Jen Wood, of AD—WO. He is also a co-founding board member of the Black Reconstruction Collective. This lecture is hosted on the occasion of GSAPP’s Open House.

Yung Ho Chang is the principal architect of Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ) and a professor of the practice of architecture at MIT.

Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine are video-artists, filmmakers, producers and publishers who experiment new narrative and cinematographic forms in relation to contemporary architecture and urban environment.

This discussion, organized by the Institute for Research in African-American Studies and the African American and African Diaspora Studies Department at Columbia University, includes a discussion with author Saidiya Hartman, professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. 

Sumayya Vally, Counterspace

Sumayya Vally is the founder of the Johannesburg and London-based design research practice Counterspace.
