MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to present an online artist talk by Willem de Rooij.
De Rooij was born in 1969 in Beverwijk, the Netherlands, and currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He has been a professor at the Frankfurt Städelschule art academy since 2006 and is one of the most influential artists of his generation. De Rooij analyses conventions of presentation and representation and constructs tensions between socio-political and autonomous productions of meaning. In his work, he engages processes of selection and combination of images in various media, ranging from sculpture to photography, film, texts and floral sculptures.
This talk will focus on his artistic practice, especially the Bouquet series and the Bantar Gebang, a moving image work that he co-created with Jeroen De Rijke in 2000. Both works are featured in Errata: collecting entanglements and embodied histories exhibition, currently showing at MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum until the 14th of February 2022. Along with the presentation, Gridthiya Gaweewong and Anna-Catharina Gebbers, curators from collecting entanglements and embodied histories project, will join the conversation with the artist.
Free admission.
This event will be conducted in English, with consecutive Thai interpretations provided.
