What does it mean to get “under the spotlight”?
More literally taken one can think of somebody or something strucked up by (bright) light. Moreover and according to several dictionary-definitions it means that the whole attention of e. g. journalists or the general public is on the spotlighted person – mostly, but not just, that person is a public figure like politician, celebrity or actor/actress. Especially the public stage, as performance venue and “place” of the last-named, can be seen as sth. bringing these both levels of meaning together. With reference to several theoretical thoughts on exhibitions understood as stage(s) this first solo-show by Georgian artist Tornike Gognadze (Städelschule) is thought as a stage.
