Digital Practice / Sound

Digital Practice / Sound (DigiPraxSND) is a Digitalpakt project funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts with with the aim of promoting digital aspects in artistic production. It deals with the topics of networking, community building, curation, and distribution.

Activities (Selection):

Sound as a subject for digital practice

Audio productions are more suitable than almost any other medium for making the leap from digital to analog and back again. The versatility of the medium of sound, coupled with its ability to exist independently of a carrier medium, enables a flexible approach to the work. Under the project title “Digital Practice / Sound”, these forms of handling become part of the artistic exploration.

Concrete activities include

• promotion of artistic sound productions
• improvement of technical equipment for such productions
• exchange with artists at other institutions
• building a sound database
• workshops in composition and sound production
• organizing concerts and performances

The overarching goals are

• integration of transformation processes into artistic education
• implementation of transformation processes in small universities
• networking and community building
• gathering experience in digital curation
• distribution of media through multiple channels
• open-source distribution, Creative Commons
• exploration of marketing potentials and strategies
• gathering experience in dealing with legal issues
