Flip Project is pleased to announce a new phase of Fétishism and lemon soda which will take place at Raffaele "bror' e purp - octopus broth", a historic kiosk or ‘banc e’ ll’acqua’[1] as it is called in Naples, known not only for its evening 'boiling octopus broth' during the winter period, but also for the juice ‘with open thighs'.[2]
Fétishism and Lemon Soda is an ongoing work by Federico Del Vecchio already presented in more occasion and which can take on new forms and interactions, both participatory and contextual.
Raffaele's kiosk therefore becomes a 'producer of sculptures - ashtrays', and the surrounding context becomes a new 'social arena', which in various stages will host 'new actors' to contribute to this dialogue through performances, installations, talks, readings, DJ sets, etc.
The project reflects our need for vitamin C, but also our Death-drive enclosing current thinking in a metaphorical sense, in the apocalyptic context of the Anthropocene era.
A story of mixed fetishization through the contradiction that exists between the juxtaposition of objects (citrus fruit and cigarettes) and the aesthetic rupture of the banal; together as a cycle and as a progression of addiction, health and smoking.
Overall, it's not all that daunting. At least in work we act socially. We are getting our vitamin C and recognizing that as a culture we tend towards devastation. However, we know what the answers are. We have left the era when we built, now we have to repair.
[1] characteristic kiosks that in the 18th century when Ferdinand of Bourbon, king of Naples, gave the people the source of Chiatamone, they begin to spread to all corners of the city to sell what at the time was a very precious commodity, fresh water.
[2] this drink has the particular characteristic of literally exploding out of the glass the moment the bicarbonate comes into contact with the lemon: the person who is drinking it instantly spreads his legs, preventing it from spilling completely over his feet.
