John Hussain Flindt
The show presents a new body of video works and installation which are a continuation of Flindt´s investigation of image making and the complexity of cultural inheritance. The exhibition is the result of what has been a nurturing and also humbling collaboration on motherhood, memory, interiority, and the ambivalence of care.
The title, belly to belly, is a quote from the lyrics of the calypso song Zombie Jamboree, which was often sung by the artist’s mother during his childhood. This song indirectly refers to the circulation and assimilation of colonial cultures within British identity, the shards of which are reflected in everyday objects, photos, and memories.
The exhibition is kindly supported by Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung, Kunst und Kultur, the Kulturamt Frankfurt am Main, and the Naspa Stiftung and with the technical support of Städelschule.
