Elements of Reading consists of a single work by Jackson Beyda. Held at fffriedrich in February 2021 with no audience, Untitled (Reverse Coda) is a two part performance consisting of a lecture, and a monologue.

Untitled tracks the origins of the earth sciences through historical and parafictional accounts. Through reading, the work ruminates on the superficial as an alternative to notions of depth and interiority where value can be located. The accounts provided trace a parallel history of observation based on affinity rather than extraction. In Untitled, reading becomes a form of digging which does not seek substance, but rather reveals different surfaces and textures.

Due to the current restrictions, the work will be on view at fffriedrich for the following days:

And by appointment via email.

Although the screening happens outside, it is necessary to keep distance and wear masks while watching the video.
