Gudskul, Städelschule, blaxTARLINES KUMASI, and Nordland kunst- og filmhøgskole are inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting (link below)
KELAS BARENG (Joint Class) emerged out of collaborative efforts between the educational institutions Gudskul (Indonesia), Städelschule (Germany), blaxTARLINES KUMASI (KNUST, Ghana), and Nordland kunst- og filmhøgskole (Norway) since 2020
Speaker:
Dicky Takndare (Udeido Collective)
Born in Sentani (1988) and based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Dicky is a Papuan artist who co-founded Udeido Collective (2018) that focused on sociocultural exploration of Papua through contemporary art. His artistic practices advocated Papuan humanism through painting, drawing, wood carving, installation, writing and community engagement. His recent works are presented in Biennale Jogja XVI Equator #6, "Roots < > Routes", Indonesia with Oceania, Jogja National Museum (2021) as Udeido Collective and Kebun Sejarah / Garden of History, Zone2Source, Amstelpark, Amsterdam (2021). Dicky initiated the Eastern Student Family Association (IKMT) of ISI Yogyakarta (2012), a community that brings together young artists from Eastern Indonesia such as Papua, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara and Sulawesi.
Dicky Takndare will share about the artistic practices of Udeido Collective as the young generation of Papuan artists, and how the socio-political situation in Papua affects their works. He will also invite us to trace back the legacy of curator, anthropologist and musician Arnold AP (1945-1984) with his band Mambesak (1978) who fought cultural oppression with curatorial strategies, radio shows and music. As the name Udeido came from a leaf to mend wounds, this Kelas Bareng will unfold the grit of Papuan cultural workers throughout generations to heal, by turning to tradition, spirits, wisdoms, solidarity, and potentiality of arts.
