Whether it be the realistic depiction of the outer world, the expression of the artist's inner emotional condition, or the reflection on art itself - historically, painting has been almost exclusively seen to exist in its purest form. In The Poet is a Pretender the medium becomes ambiguous. As much as the works of Yana Tsegay, Hannah Hansel, Felix Krapp, Holger Højbjerg and Tina Kohlmann reveal painterly qualities, they obscure the very same and as such incorporate modes of transgression. It is within this potential, that they unfold to the imaginary.
