A PANEL DISCUSSION ABOUT THE MEANING AND ROLE OF ARTISTIC-MATERIAL AESTHETICS AND PRACTICES IN THE ART-WORLDS SHORTLY BEFORE A CLIMATIC "POINT OF NO RETURN".
Saturday 14.10.23, 4 - 6 pm
Husslehof
Koblenzer Straße 12 60327 Frankfurt am Main
with @x.breidenbach (artist) Kim Kraczon @kkraczon (conservator of contemporary art, director of materials at KiCulture, advisor for GCC and founding member of GCC Berlin) and Felix Große-Lohmann (@mfa_material_fuer_alle/ @hussle_hof)
In the exhibition METABOLE by X Breidenbach feat. Christian Doeller (Sound) sustainability is elementally connected with the arts. Material choices, production methods, transport and storage as well as the decay of art are actively considered and become artistic and contextual elements in the show.
Philosopher Timothy Morton describes anthropocene systems such as microplastics and climate catastrophe as hyperobjects. These objects are too vast and complex to simply break down or localize and exist in dimensions and scales that are incomparable to human life. Therefore, hyperobjects such as climate catastrophe/ mass extinction must be explored artistically to further develop and sensitize our perception and worldview.
The resulting questions for the meaning and role of artistic-material aesthetics and practices in the art-worlds shortly before a climatic "point of no return" will receive special attention in this panel and create discussion opportunities with the audience.
