PSM is pleased to present Prophetic Complaints/ 69 Rooms H&V, the first solo exhibition of the Brazilian-Argentinian artist Dudu Quintanilha.
The show features films that have already been installed in Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst (GAK) in Bremen, while also including the new eponymous work, which was made in collaboration with the Blaumeier-Atelier. Quintanilha’s work is centred around deconstructing, unbalancing and de-structuring the spectator’s perception. He removes any masks that ‘attract’ or ‘frighten’, exposing the symbolic and systemic societal violence and the collective consciousness. He focuses on the fragility and vulnerability of bodies in the face of the brutality of life, especially in Brazillian and Western capitalist societies, which remain embedded in networks of heteronormativity, masculinism, racism and classism.
The artist also invited MEXA, a group active since 2015, which strives to empower minorities in Brazil and of which he is a founding member, to present a series of works that reflect on issues such as HIV and marginalisation that are rooted in the members’ own experiences.
