"Sometimes It’s Better Than Ever"

TOBIAS REHBERGER

"Sometimes It’s Better Than Ever"
PİLEVNELİ Dolapdere
September 9 - November 2, 2019
Vernissage: September 9, 2019 I 18:00 - 21:00

The exhibition titled "Sometimes It's Better Than Ever" consisting of new body of works by Tobias Rehberger, as well as five previously shown sculptures, will be on view at PİLEVNELİ Dolapdere in Istanbul between September 9 - November 2, 2019. The show will include works by Rehberger such as the 'Infections', 'Portrait Sculptures', 'Mother Without Children', and 'Refuse', along with the artist's watercolors and neon works.

Among Germany's leading contemporary artists, Tobias Rehberger works within the realms of architecture and design to explore the two disciplines' possible relations to fine art. Rehberger invites his viewers to take part in an experience by creating art from new, less sanctified contexts: neon signs seen on the streets, lamps made of velcro, vase sculptures. The artist is preparing to show a new example of Rehberger's interactive architectural installations on the terrace floor of the gallery during and after the show, to serve as a social platform which contributes to the visitor's experience, as a space where people can eat, drink and spend time.

“Regret”

PİLEVNELİ Mecidiyeköy
September 10 - October 27, 2019
Vernissage: September 10, 2019 I 18:00 - 21:00

Pilevneli Gallery is pleased to present Tobias Rehberger's "Regret", an installation work which invites its viewers to a shadow play, and another installation made of tiles, at its Mecidiyeköy location in Istanbul between September 10 - October 27, 2019. These works will be on view alongside the artist's exhibition "Sometimes It's Better Than Ever", which will be taking place in the gallery's Dolapdere location between 9 September - 2 November, 2019.

Tobias Rehberger brings the experience he has invited his viewers to take part in Dolapdere to Mecidiyeköy. With his piece "Regret", exhibited in Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt in 2014, the artist wants his audience to create their own meanings of the sculpture. The artwork made out of old neon tubes, fairground and advertisement lights, steel, creates a game of light-and-shadow. Rehberger intends to not let the audience understand what the main artwork is; is it the steel sculpture or the shadow on the ground?

Tobias Rehberger also presents his installation in PİLEVNELİ Mecidiyeköy. The artwork, which was exhibited first in Fondation Beyeler and then brought to Art Basel Miami Beach in 2015, seems metaphorically critical of the contemporary media, who is seen as the "ethical" protector of the public. By approaching contemporary media as an inconsistent channel which "pixellates" and at the same time exposes images that are abundant in our daily lives, Rehberger encourages his viewers to leave the exhibition with new questions on their minds.
