“After the Silence” brings together works in various media—such as painting on different media, objects, sculpture, and performance—that deal with the relationships between language, space, and social structure. The works are related to words, both conceptually and formally. With a political and social nature, the works are directly linked to the place where they are located, empowering the space as an active agent of reflection. The title, “after silence,” suggests a suspension — what can emerge after an interval, a pause, a time of reflection — and invites the audience to consider the gestures and thoughts that follow moments of restraint.
Beto Shwafaty articulates his works based on historical and institutional investigations, revealing hidden layers of power and representation present in cultural contexts. His practice is anchored in research on memory and spatiality, proposing critical resignifications through objects and images that bear the marks of broader social situations.
Flavio Cury, in turn, approaches language as a symbolic field in constant transmutation, putting discourse, identity and belonging under tension. Through hybrid compositions and his performance, he provokes fissures and displacements in conventional modes of perception, establishing new territories of affection and criticism.
The artist's project for this exhibition was supported by the Department of Art and Culture of the City of Munich, Germany.
