Stuart Middleton
Stuart Middleton (*1987 in Crewe, UK) lives and works in Glasgow. He studied fine art at the Städelschule in Michael Krebber’s class. Prior to that he studied painting from 2006 to 2009 at Camberwell College of Art in London.
Graduate prize
During the Croissant graduate exhibition in MMK – Museum of Modern Art Frankfurt am Main, Stuart Middleton won the 2016 graduate prize of € 2000 awarded by Städelschule Portikus e.V.
His work Puppet 02 (2017) was selected by the jury with the following justification: “The status of Stuart Middleton’s work is open. His objects are both independent sculptures in the space and protagonists in meticulously constructed stop motion films. As disturbingly banal revenants of our present, they invoke a dystopian basic emotion and shake the now fragile borders between reality and the subject.”
