Lecture
Abraham Cruzvillegas: Autorreconstrucción
Thursday, January 18 2018, 7 pm, Aula

Abraham Cruzvillegas's lecture will gravitate around recent projects, specially "The Water Trilogy": a set of exhibitions made in Paris, Tokyo and Rotterdam and some more contextual references of his work. Conclusively, these will be set into relation with future projects.

Cruzvillegas (b. 1968) is one of the most important artists of his generation to come out of the vibrant art scene in Mexico. Over the past 10 years, Cruzvillegas has developed a riveting body of work that investigates what he calls autoconstrucción, or “self-construction.” Informed by the sociopolitical contexts of Latin America, Cruzvillegas has garnered much attention for his dynamic assemblage sculptures made of found objects.

Most recent and noteworthy projects and exhibitions include: Empty Lot, Tate Modern, London, UK (2015); MALI in situ: Abraham Cruzvillegas, Museo de arte de Lima, Peru (2015); Autoconstrucción, Museo Jumex, Mexico City, and Museo Amparo, Puebla, Mexico (2014); and Abraham Cruzvillegas: The Autoconstrucción Suites, Haus der Kunst, Munich, DE (2014) and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, US (2013). He is represented by Regen Projects, Kurimanzutto, Thomas Dane Gallery, and Chantal Crousel, and has partaken in numerous biennales around the world. He currently lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico
