Lecture: ruangrupa

In the context of their elaboration of documenta fifteen in Kassel, ruangrupa reflects in their lecture on their specific methods and questions raised in the process, e.g. what ruangrupa means under the current conditions, and what consequences this has for their method in Kassel.
ruruHaus is an extension of ruangrupa’s curatorial practice, developed in Jakarta and brought to Kassel. As a grounding element, it starts small, diverse and slowly grows with time. The ruruHaus functions as a living room, in order for ruangrupa to practice what they know best in the context of a different city: Offering conversations, building relationships, sharing ideas and trying to understanding with locals and guests about what already exist in Kassel. Diversity of knowledge, skills, experiences, necessities, and values are be brought in and find their balance in the space. It is, in short, a lab. One for dialogue. Just like a radio stations’ capacity to resonate multiplicity of stories. Or like a womb, where embryos are incubated for it to grow and walk by themselves in the future. As an extension of ruangrupa, the assembly (or majelis, as it’s called in Gudskul) will be a decision-making mechanism. The type of majelis practiced in ruruHaus will be decided by the relationships catalysed by its existence. ruruHaus’ activities will also include artists’ residencies and absorb activities by and for lumbung partners. This way, it could be seen as a shared bank of resources (in its whole entirety) and a meeting point between Kassel and what lies beyond its borders. In ruruHaus, Kassel-style-nongkrong (with or without distance) will be developed and practiced. For that connections to Kassel’s initiatives are currently being conducted, to practice nongkrong directly, instead of working on conceptual explanations.
The lecture will be held in English language.
