Melissa Gordon: The Embarrassment of SUCKCESS

Vortrag5. Februar 2020, 19:00Aula, Städelschule, Dürerstraße 10, 60596 Frankfurt am Main

Following from a recent publication titled The Embarrassment of SUCKCESS with the Witte de With – Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, Melissa Gordon’s lecture will outline her research on the behaviour of gesture in painting, and use the site and the container of these gestures as a place to consider how we evaluate (known and unknown) quantities, authorships, and movement, in regard to her own work and practices of others that have gone “off grid."

Melissa Gordon is a British and American painter based in Brussels. Recent exhibitions include Shits and Giggles at Deweer Gallery, Belgium (2019) and The Mechanics of Fluids at Marianne Boesky Gallery, NY (2018). She has exhibited at The Vleeshal, Middleburg; Eastside Projects, Birmingham; WIELS Centre for Contemporary Art, Brussels; Spike Island, Bristol; The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and Kunstmuseum Bonn amongst others. Her catalogue Painting Behind Itself was published with Revolver Press in 2016. She is a Professor of Painting at the Oslo Art Academy.

Der Vortrag findet in englischer Sprache statt.
