Judith Hopf (*1969 in Karlsruhe/DE) has been teaching fine art at the Städelschule in Frankfurt since 2008. Exclusively for the Städelschule, the Berlin-based artist has developed and produced a decoration for a dinner plate in collaboration with the city’s Royal Porcelain Manufactory (KPM). In her sculptures and objects Judith Hopf often includes items that have their origins in so-called everyday culture. In the edition Pour la Forme, a drawing by Asgar Jorn was graphically interpreted by the artist and applied using a screen-printing technique on a plate designed by Enzo Mari. By adopting this artistic method, situated between imitation, appropriation and reconstruction, the artist is pleading within an institutional context such as that of the Städelschule – with something of a twinkle in her eye – for an updating of those artistic connections between knowledge and production methods that are dedicated to aesthetic and political experiment. To underline this, Judith Hopf happily avails herself of coincidence as a design element.
