Lars Karl Becker (*1984 in Frankfurt am Main) studied under Tobias Rehberger at the Städelschule from 2012 to 2017.

For the 200th anniversary of the Städelschule, Lars Karl Becker has produced the anniversary edition Nothing Compares to You (2017). The 25 unique pieces are like cups that could also be used in the refectory of the Städelschule. However they are dysfunctional in numerous ways: each cup was first damaged using a diamond drill to drill a hole in its side. Then glaze was applied on the subsequently invisible places and allowed to run out through the hole in the cup. The subsequent firing process was carried out precisely with the intention of taking each cup out of the oven in a different emotional state. We encounter a collection of individual objects, some of which can be used, some need to be used with care and some are destroyed. Anyone who buys an anniversary edition only finds out which unique item he or she now possesses after unpacking it.
