Katharina Schücke (*1982 in Dresden/DE) studied under Professor Tobias Rehberger from 2001 to 2007. She observes urban development in eastern Germany. She does not take a documentary approach here, but rather compares the state of buildings in old images with their state today, and attempts to develop her own ideas. They often result in barely visible alienation and change. In her quasi-romantic notions of urban development, she enters into dialogue with the painter Caspar David Friedrich who worked in Dresden for many years.
Working with old black and white postcards appeals to me because it allows current structures to be invented for historical conditions. This produces photographs whose motifs do not exist.
