Thomas Bayrle (*1937 in Berlin/DE) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main. He was professor at the Städelschule from 1975 to 2007. The loop is an important element in Thomas Bayrle’s work. Loop designates going round a race track several times, as well as the continual repetition of a sequence of music, the path taken on the rollercoaster or a repeatable part of a computer program. Looping was also the title of his show in 2008/2009 in Cologne’s Museum Ludwig, where alongside serial graphic works over 40 years his latest sculpture Conveyor belt was exhibited with loops towering up to four metres high.
